00:00:01
Welcome to the Wheel Legit podcast.

00:00:04
I'm your host Marquee Carter and we're going to get into the

00:00:07
first episode. The first episode is a little

00:00:11
background myself on how I got into the business world.

00:00:16
I graduated high school at 18 years old, but year prior to

00:00:21
that I had a good friend and high school named David.

00:00:25
Me and him wanted to start a music label, I can't recall the

00:00:31
name of the label that we want to start but me and him had

00:00:35
plans to be like. Which is crazy to say right now

00:00:39
but at that time P Diddy was everything as an entrepreneur.

00:00:46
Time part goes on Charles and tribulations on both parts.

00:00:51
He got moved away. I did too also.

00:00:55
So that dream kinda vanished next following year.

00:01:01
Senior in high school had no focus or anything but my first

00:01:05
business venture at that time was I wanted to own a laundry

00:01:10
mat. But if the Internet not too much

00:01:15
education, no thought process into it.

00:01:19
It kind of just slipped my mind for years and years and years.

00:01:23
So the idea just came and went. I had in the back of my mind but

00:01:26
just came and went. So Fast forward, finished high

00:01:31
school, took a couple trade classes, learned a variety of

00:01:36
different things in different industries.

00:01:39
Graduated college and I was in my career field and I put in for

00:01:47
a promotion after about two years, I believe, and I didn't

00:01:54
get the promotion. I wasn't bitter, I wasn't upset.

00:01:59
So Nipsey had passed a little after I didn't get the

00:02:05
promotion. And this is when I was working

00:02:08
for the state of Tennessee and I overheard little miniseries and

00:02:15
interviews and documentaries that they had on.

00:02:18
And he had mentioned that how he got into the business world was

00:02:23
selling shirts. I was like, hmm, that couldn't

00:02:28
be too hard to get into. So I decided to do research off

00:02:36
Google, come up with little designs and like, you know what,

00:02:43
I can do this. So I was coming up with a name

00:02:46
and I couldn't really think of anything that was catchy.

00:02:51
So when I came up was we legit? How I come up with the name?

00:02:59
It was something common used growing up and I noticed as I

00:03:08
got older when when a brother have a business say hey man, I

00:03:14
got this business going on and the first thing on my axis is

00:03:18
legit. So that's what popped in my

00:03:20
head. So that's what I saw the name

00:03:23
came about. So I came up with the name, came

00:03:27
up with 1 logo, sat on it for a while and worked on it here and

00:03:32
there. 2021 comes around. I left Tennessee, came to

00:03:39
Dallas, TX, started a new venture.

00:03:44
The girl I was dating at the time said, hey, you got an

00:03:48
interesting concept, you should look and getting it, getting it

00:03:51
LLC. I didn't know what the LOC was,

00:03:56
seen it, but didn't really have too much education on what it

00:03:59
was. So I did my research on it for

00:04:03
the state of Texas. I did everything, everything,

00:04:08
checked out, did research. A relative of hers made two

00:04:18
designs for me. I paid for them and I was ready

00:04:22
to launch and when I launched I had got the name.

00:04:29
So I paid for the name 1st through the state of tennis,

00:04:32
state of Texas to make sure that no one has the name sat on it.

00:04:38
About a week, August of 2021, it checked out that no one had the

00:04:44
name and I came up with We Legit LFC in August 2021.

00:04:53
Then once I got my LOC, I sat on it still worked on it still

00:05:00
worked on the craft to figure on how to actually press your

00:05:03
shirt, how to press a hoodie, how to do a lot of different

00:05:09
things. So that took time and effort.

00:05:16
So when 2022 came around, working lots of working a little

00:05:23
business, but just not ready to launch yet 'cause I just didn't

00:05:26
feel comfortable yet. So as time goes on, time goes

00:05:34
on. I launched it May 2023 and the

00:05:45
reason why it took so long is my energy wasn't right, mine wasn't

00:05:50
right. Lot of distractions and a lot of

00:05:53
applications that to tend to at this time.

00:05:56
I had the equipment, the equipment was taken so I had to

00:06:01
start from scratch and just go around.

00:06:04
I learned that when you start something that is business

00:06:08
related, it's always best to do it the best way you can on your

00:06:14
own before you outsource or reach out to someone to help

00:06:20
you. Because if you can't do it on

00:06:24
your own, your confidence level will always be questionable.

00:06:31
But if you do it with someone else, you have somebody else to

00:06:36
lean on. And when you lean on somebody

00:06:38
else, then that's where there's gonna be issues between who

00:06:43
started what, who did what, back and forth, lawsuits, whole lot

00:06:50
of, I won't say controversy, but a lot of back and forth on who

00:06:54
does what, who was what, and on how it came about.

00:06:58
Me. I took the route of doing

00:07:00
everything on my own, establish it and make sure everything was

00:07:07
right. So as May 23rd came around, I

00:07:15
started up the website welegit.com, I open up a

00:07:22
business Facebook account, open up a business Instagram account,

00:07:27
and I officially started a Tiktok account, launched

00:07:32
everything at one time, posting stuff, showing testers of the

00:07:38
website to people, people saying oh this is really good, you got

00:07:42
something. Oh, OK, doing something off the

00:07:46
RIP. I'm thinking I'll make a bunch

00:07:49
of sales, 'cause I know so many people and all this other stuff,

00:07:53
none of that happened. The first six months to a year

00:08:00
was the toughest when starting out as an entrepreneur because

00:08:05
you don't know what's gonna happen.

00:08:07
You don't know if you're doing it right.

00:08:10
You don't know if people looking at it, you know, it's just like

00:08:13
a whole lot of unknown and uncertainty, uncertainty that is

00:08:18
happening at this moment. The once you make it past that

00:08:21
first year, it gets easy. Trust and believe it gets easy.

00:08:28
My first year wasn't my worst year.

00:08:31
I took it lost business wise. I was learning as I go, no

00:08:39
schooling or anything like that. 2024 comes around, 2024 come

00:08:47
around, I'm season. I got a whole lot more designs,

00:08:53
marketing is growing, we're getting better on making reels,

00:08:58
posting all kind of stuff. 2024 turned out to be my best year in

00:09:06
the business world. Reason being, the year I grossed

00:09:12
more than I spent end up having an article written about me from

00:09:23
the Nashville voyage. Shout out to them if it wasn't

00:09:27
for them. I want to got national and

00:09:31
worldwide exposure and in April that was my biggest sales of

00:09:40
April 2024. Popularity grew and being well

00:09:47
known in Dallas, TX and then transitioning late 2023 to

00:09:57
Nashville, TN still kept everything intact, still

00:10:01
promoted and still was working as in 2024.

00:10:08
Instead of marking my brand name designs, I start got into the

00:10:15
vinyl work. When I start doing a vinyl, it

00:10:19
took me to a whole another direction.

00:10:22
Now I'm able to create all kind of different things.

00:10:26
None of the birthday shirts, graduation shirts, name it.

00:10:34
I did it and it was a very lucrative year, gaining exposure

00:10:43
little by little, making money, getting exposed due to the

00:10:48
article and check that article out at nashvillevoyage.com.

00:10:52
You can type my name, Marquis Carter or wee legit clothing.

00:10:55
It'll pop right up. 2024 taught me how to stay consistent, work

00:11:03
on your craft, promote no matter what, wherever you go, and

00:11:08
somebody's always watching. Coming into 2025, very well

00:11:17
seasoned, sales coming in, very lucrative.

00:11:22
I'm being looked at on a consistent basis.

00:11:25
I end up having three more magazine articles written on me.

00:11:30
I'm currently in the process of having more articles written on

00:11:32
me. I have a big support crew, not

00:11:39
so much fans, but I got a big circle.

00:11:43
The friends are supporting me, some out in the open, some in

00:11:48
the background, major family support and it's just overall

00:11:53
just growth and it led to me starting this podcast.

00:12:02
This will conclude the first episode that We Legit and what's

00:12:11
included for this podcast. Interviewing young entrepreneurs

00:12:18
all across the United States and overseas, interviewing up and

00:12:24

00:12:29
things are going, giving education to the youth on how to

00:12:35
go about starting the business if you don't want to go to

00:12:37
school route and a variety of different things.

00:12:42
Encouraging and everything because one thing about me We

00:12:48
Legit is not just a brand, it's a lifestyle.

00:12:52
And this will conclude the first episode.

00:12:55
Peace and have a good day.
